Tools

This chapter contains a set of basic calculation tools designed to assist engineers in quickly assessing process corrosivity for major damage mechanisms prevalent in the refining industry. These tools are invaluable for evaluating the potential risks associated with corrosive environments and facilitating informed decision-making in generic materials selection and process-materials related corrosion mitigation strategies. The addressed significant damage mechanisms include sulfidation, naphthenic acid corrosion, and ammonium bisulfide corrosion, all of which are known to pose considerable challenges to refinery operations. It also includes a basic unit converter and an estimator for pipe/equipment service life based on provided metal thickness and observed/calculated corrosion rate.
